Lynville, TN History of Name
The name of the city of Lynnville, Tennessee has an interesting backstory. It was called for Lynn Creek due to "Lynn" or abundant linden trees that were there along the streets.
In 1810, Old Lynnville, now it is called as the village of Waco, was removed on Lynn Creek . After 50 years, it was a prosperous area. Some of the things you can see are a post office, hotels, stores, and factories and a wholesale coffee warehouse.

According to a write-up from The Giles Free Press, August 21, 1997, there are 59 properties of Lynnville on the list of National Register of Historic Places. Just imagine how really rich in historical places Lynnville is. With a population of 409 of an old town market, it is considered one of the oldest towns in the vicinity. However, many businesses have stopped operating, and some establishments or buildings need restoration.
The Board of Aldermen and Mayor Frances Hewitt provided a renewed effort to set up Lynnville as a market place. In this project, they decided to join and collaborate with the non-profit Lynnville Railroad Preservation Society to sell a new industry-tourism.
Indeed, Lynnville is a distinct town and is full of remarkable history.
Last February 14, 1907, the Tennessee General Assembly passed an act to introduce the (New) Lynnville. Those who are in authority, such as the officers, had a mayor and five aldermen chosen by the area's voters.
Since then, (New) Lynville grew intro a metropolis crossing diagonally the Nashville, Decatur Railroad (currently CSX Transportation), and the Cornersville Turnpike. They provided sawmills, mills, brickyard, a tin shop, a woodshop, and other facilities. Meanwhile, on the northern border, the town gave them great stones for pillars, buildings, steps, and chimneys. During the 1890s, the same quarry was the suppliers for building the Federal Arsenal at Columbia, Tennessee.
After many years of building the railway, Lynnville became the primary trade and shipping hub for the northern areas of Giles County. They traded cattle, hogs, mules horses, poultry, and eggs.
