Lewisburg, TN History
The history of Lewisburg can be traced back to the early 1800s. Interestingly, the town's name was gotten for the frontier explorer Meriwether Lewis. The famous duo, Lewis and Clark, was a popular figure in the Backstage to Backroads Trail.
In the early 1900s, the town became a shipping center and trading area for farm goods and livestock in Marshall County.
Nowadays, it's famed as the home to the World Headquarters of the Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders' & Exhibitors' Association.
Furthermore, the town hosted some of Tennessee's most unique and fun festivals such as Goats, Music & More held each fall. The feast's main feature is the "fainting" goat, a unique breed that faints, but not in a harmful way, in which a homesteader in the mid-1800s brought it.
Because of its rare genetic and painless physical condition, the "fainting" goats become firm, drop their balance, and usually falls over. The breed almost faced extinction in the 1980s. However, the quirky but lovely goats are flourishing globally, thanks to places like Lewisburg that cherish and keep their novelty.
Additionally, different cultures of indigenous peoples settled the place of Lewisburg and Marshall County. Some of those who we're here were native Americans when Spanish, French, and English travelers came to the area.

Did you know that Marshall County, was named after the young nation's first Supreme Court Chief Justice and American jurist, John Marshall?
The act of the Tennessee General Assembly founded the county in 1836. This paved the way for the said country to be named after Lewisburg in honor of the achievements of frontier explorer Meriweather Lewis.
The former frontier explorer had been a leader of the Lewis and Clark Expedition to discover the Louisiana Territory. Then, Lewisburg was incorporated in 1837, on a land of 50 acres donated for civic action.
Lewisburg became a principal area for trading and shipping center for its farm produce, goods, and livestock. It was also the pioneer center of the justice system and retail centers for the farmers in the area.
